Our Story
You're probably asking yourself, "Self? What is this Squeat! thing and how will it change my life?". That's a good question, but you really shouldn't talk to yourself so much. Let's answer that question with another. Have you ever had a conversation like this?
  • You: Where do you want to go for lunch?
  • Bob: I don't know, where do YOU want to go?
  • You: I don't know. How about that Chinese place?
  • Bob: Nah, I don't feel like it. How about that Burger place?
  • You: I just went there yesterday. Let's just go to the Blando-Rama again.
So why are you going to Blando-Rama everyday when you could let Squeat! tell you where to go and save yourself the time of having that same old tired conversation? Instead you could have a conversation like this.

  • You: Hey Bob, wake up, it's time for lunch!
  • Bob: Huh, oh, where are we going?
  • You: Squeat says we should go to the Most-Excellent Food Palace.
  • Bob: Great idea! Let's go! How does Squeat do it?
  • You (in a hushed voice): It's magic.
"How does Squeat do it?" you ask (actually Bob asked first but we're not counting). The answer is that Squeat! uses YOUR input and the input of all your friends to decide what is the best match.

"Tell me more!"

The way it works is you add restaurants to your party and vote on them every time you eat. As you vote, Squeat! automatically adds your higher ranked places to your personal list (you can also add to your list directly if you want). Squeat! then takes all of that voting information and generates scores for each place in each person's list. Each time you use Squeat!, it will get a little smarter and remember that you don't like the Blando-Rama that much and will recommend it less often.

If you prefer having more control, you don't have to use the use the Squeat! recommendations. You can just add places to your party manually or 'by location' and Squeat! will just use your voting results to help improve future recommendations.

It's all about helping you and your friends decide where to eat!

But wait, there's more (I've always wanted to say that). Squeat! starts out like The Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. Initially it doesn't really know which places you like best. But, by the end of the journey, it gets a brain and figures out what you like and don't like. Likewise, it does the same thing for other people in your party and tries to come up with recommendations that are both pleasing and inoffensive to everyone in the party.

Squeat! also tries to make sure you don't eat at the same place every day because it doesn't want you to get sick of your favorite places. Likewise, Squeat! will occasionally try to recommend the lower rated places on your list, just to make sure you still don't like them. But you can always vote them down if you want (remember, it's all about you). In short, the more you vote a place up, the more it shows up, and the more you vote a place down, the less it shows up.

"Sweet... I mean, Squeat!"
